we all dream of many students many human beings deep dream of and what is that becoming an IAS officer right so what does this process all about and is it that easy is it tough and more importantly is it kind of a do able thing right we will see everything today and to help you understand the intensity of this entire process. I will give you numbers of then tire upse exams that happened, so then you understand the volume and the you know the toughness with respect to the qualifying process IAS Indian Administrative Service one of the most valued ranks in the governance system of India. So people value and IAS officer the government values and IAS officer like anything so the cabinet secretary of a government typically an ISO.
He is the highest carer right there one of the he or she is one of the most I would say valued top rank official in the governance system, so for your information they have to be an IAS officer. Now what is this if I need to become an IAS officer what should I be doing all right let me put it this way when it comes to the examination pattern right there are three qualifying steps the first is called Pelham’s prelims is nothing but preliminary examination. More of aptitude and general studies it’s a written examination and from then on you move to something called mains. So people who qualify the Pelham’s move to the level and people who qualify you know in fact very few who qualify the mains level. They will be given called as and personal interview it’s more of a personality test so people who qualify that hard the ones who get qualified for the IAS carer they get to undergo the foundation training right now let’s look at some numbers.
Qualified problems they moved on to mains and from mains how many people were called for the interview is the kind of numbers who will be chosen for the training right so now I hope you understand thein tensity of this entire process it’s this is not to demotivate you this is for you to understand if you are very serious get into it if you are so aspirational if this is your every thing for you get into it alright this is not let me try kind of an attempt dear students doesn’t work that way, now I will give you certain pointers as to what happens in these places what is a pattern of exams how it all happens right so obviously entry for IAS Ips both gup-a as well as groupie are conducted by the UPSC Union Public Service. Commission all right of India of course so now what is Group A and Group B. So Group A is general public for anyone Group E is more for Union Territories and also for the Armed Forces so Union Territory Civil Services Armed Forces similar services they fall under Group B but it is the same carer.
I hope you got it right so what is this pattern so preliminary examinations there are two papers one is more of an aptitude test right both come under general studies. When is more of an aptitude test and 200 marks duration is for two hours then this is GS 2 which is general studies – you can pick a subject that you want alright it’s again the qualifying paper is just 33 percentage because we only based on this people take up the other test so this is more of the basic qualifying test then so you have an option to choose one subject and 200 marks 2 hours duration again so one is a basic aptitude test as other is one subject you have to choose kind of an optional subject based on which you move forward write two papers in the Pelham’s means this is the tricky and the toughest part seven papers are there almost 20 25 marks all right so 20 25 miles roughly so you can see if one English obviously and there is one anyone Indian language. Which is a part of the eight the constitution so these two papers languages and then for the merit paper one essay paper – on general studies. Which is Indian heritage culture history geography of the world and the society so now you know in case you are aspiring for is social studies is a must guys current affairs.
What is current it’s all about social studies again so Indian heritage and agra of the world so ensure that you guys are bang on with respect to social right similarly the civics part paper three governance constitution polity social justice international relations and paper for technology economic development biodiversity environment security and disaster management because these are part of the daily governance that is why they test you at the beginning itself on these things and paper five ethics integrity and aptitude. Which is very important for a person to take decision on defeat at the same time be loyal to the governance system of india. Then optional papers there are two papers you can’t you have to pick. So paper one and paper two optional so overall seven papers are there 20 25 marks right so the next one is the personality test if you have qualified the mains press me you just need that confidence and the right aptitude and the mindset you to get into the personality test you need to think on your feet and answer and this test is primarily to check your aptitude. Your mental toughness with respect to facing a situation now 275 marks and it is obviously with the panel of judges who will be deciding what marks to a lot for you it can be as low as thirty as high as more than eighty percent also right guys so the purpose of this is to check the mental and emotional awareness of the candidate as a result of usually you’re reaching to face folks you’re reaching to face things wherever you would like to quickly decide take decisions on the spot so your emotional awareness empathy everything matters which will be tested here so generally a panel of five people headed by a member of UPSC they are the ones who conduct the final interview.
The personality test as we call it excellent now so what is my strategy with respect to preparation this matters a lot and like tell you this in general the right you call it a study period for you PSE is between two to three years two rigorous dedicated preparation then definitely lead to you know promising results. Now current affairs current affairs are a must please ensure you take reliable sources like the Hindu PIB etc and start reading them on a daily basis previous years question papers syllabus master it these are part of your preparation done. Then NCERT books and take notes so with respect to show you know prelims please take short notes and for mains you will be required to write a say kind of things so please ensure you take descriptive notes. This is important never stop your preparation until a little before the exam keep preparing do not think that your preparation is over and stop it before you know to three months know till the exam probably one month prior to it or half fifteen days prior to it you can stop and with respect to your optional subjects this is a place where many of the people miss out pick the optional subject always based on your area of interest and your aptitude.
This is very important and remember certain optional subjects you will find that the questions will over lap between prelims and mains focus more on them because it is easy to acquire full marks you got it so this is very important and then now all subjects see the questions generally come at a degree level dear students it come at a degree level so you need to be conscious of that and prepare accordingly all Your MCQs of course keep revising multiple times keep updating your notes periodically and you will find that you are all set and ready. What do you need probably you guys might be in grade 6 7 or 8. What you need this is the time you should start disciplining yourself for this this to hand off year two to three years is like a mara thonand this is the time where you should start creating that self-discipline in you for that marathon that’s how I would put it right because there is no reason for me to ask you to prepare today because it’s going to become absolute at that point in time but it is very essential right from now discipline your self ensure all these subjects even the academics. You understand the importance of them because questions are going to come from that also so we ensure you master the misunderstand and read them understand and study them you got it social studies never never ignore just do not study social studies just for exam purposes in case you are in IES has parental you got what I would want to you know discuss with you so if you are at is aspirant this is the time to start dreaming continue disciplining yourself continue preparing.
